Coastal Protection

By helping revitalize our diminishing oyster reef population, SPAT-Tech is protecting and preserving our coasts against hurricanes, climate-change and man-made disruptions.

We live and work along the Gulf Coast where our way of life is threatened by coastal erosion which is slowly eating away our barrier islands and critical marsh land. Annually, Louisiana alone loses on average the equivalent of one football field* of wetlands every 100 minutes!

Oyster reefs help combat this loss of erosion by absorbing up to 93% of the wave energy created by daily storms, tidal surges and hurricanes.

We help replenish existing oyster reefs or build new ones by placing cultch (the mass collection of crushed concrete, broken shells, limestone, etc. of which an oyster bed is formed) set with millions of eyed larvae in strategic locations provided by our clients, typically state agencies in charge of coastal or wildlife protection. Our hatchery size and industrial-scale production can play a vital roll protecting not only the Gulf Coast but coastlines around the world.
